Sophomore Matt Godusky had two hits, including a home run, but Saint Joseph's (0-5) managed just four hits overall and one run and dropped an 11-1 decision to nationally-ranked Florida State (10-1) at Dick Howser Stadium.
FSU tallied twice in the first inning and added five runs in the third to break the game open. The Hawks got on the board and broke up the shutout in the fourth on a solo home run hit over the left field fence by Godusky. The Seminoles added two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to close out the scoring.
Sophomore pitcher Michael Hyde (2-1) pitched seven innings and allowed just one run on three hits in FSU's victory. St. Joe's pitcher Brian Anecharico (0-2) suffered the defeat. Freshman Jason Hessler pitched well in relief for the Hawks
Florida State capitalized on 12 St. Joe's walks and five errors in the win.
The Hawks conclude their series with the Seminoles on Sunday at 12:30 PM.
