PHILADELPHIA - Shooting just 28.6 percent from the field, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team fell to #16 Temple 69-46 in the regular season finale at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on Sunday.
The Owls jumped out to an early 17-8 lead out of the gates, backed by seven points from Cynthia Jordan.
Trailing 19-11, the Hawks scored five straight to cut the deficit to three, 19-16, with 5:46 remaining.
From there, Temple would outscore Saint Joseph's 19-7 over the final five minutes to take a 38--23 lead into the lockerroom.
It was more of the same in the secodn half, as the Owls scored the first five points of the second stanza to open a 43-23 lead at 16:53.
The Hawks would come no closed than 16, as Temple became only the fourth team to go undefeated in Atlantic 10 play.
For the game, Saint Joseph's shot just 28.6 percent on 14-of-49 field goals. Temple finished 28-of-53 from the floor for 52.8 percent.
Individually, sophomore Ayahna Cornish and freshman Timisha Gomez led SJU with 10 points apiece. Center Erica Pollocka and sophomore guard Whitney Ffrench added nine apiece, with POllock grabbing a game-high eight rebounds.
Ari Moore paced Temple with 15 points, while Jordan added 13.
With the loss, the Hawks finish the regular season 6-22 and 4-12 in the A-10. Saint Joseph's, who finished fifth in the A-10 East, face the number four seed in the A-10 West, La Salle, Friday at noon in the openeing round of the A-10 Tournament
Temple moved to 24-3 and 16-0 in the A-10 with the win.
