Big Fourth Inning Powers UCF Over SJU

March 8, 2005

Box Score

ORLANDO, FL - Sophomore Mike Gentile had a couple of hits, but six Hawk errors and 13 runs in the fourth inning helped #26 Central Florida run past Saint Joseph's (2-11), 22-3, at Jay Bergman Field.

A NCAA Tournament participant in 2004, the Golden Knights were a stern test for Hawk freshman Matt Gilbert (0-1), who was making his first collegiate start. The newcomer however was not aided by defense behind him. Gilbert allowed seven hits and 10 runs in 3.2 innings, however just three of the runs were earned.

Despite the early troubles, it was a 6-1 game entering the bottom of the fourth, when UCF broke the game open with 13 runs in the frame. Gilbert was knocked out of the game and junior Brian Anecharico and freshman Mark Imbo couldn't slow down the surge. Junior Jake Iampietro finally ended the rally.

Gentile had a couple of hits and an RBI to lead the Hawks offensively.

SJU continues its Florida trip against Stetson on Wednesday.
