The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team saw its 5-3 halftime lead evaporate in the second half, but scored five unanswered to claim the Hawks first Atlantic 10 victory of the year, downing Massachusetts 10-7.
After jumping out to a 5-3 in the first half, the Hawks gave up four consecutive goals to the Minutewomen in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza to take a 7-5 lead. Four different Massachusetts scored during the streak, as Kerri Connerty put the Minutewomen at 9:53.
Over the final 20 minutes, the Hawks offense came alive as junior Kerry O'Connell tallied three of her game-high five goals to help Saint Joseph's regain its lead. O'Connell's final goal of the game, coming at 26:08, solidified the Hawks 10-7 victory.
In the first half, both teams answered each other, as the score remained tied at two apiece halfway into the first period.
Saint Joseph's Kristina Jaggers began a three-goal run for the Hawks, as O'Connell and Lindsey-Kate McCool each added a goal.
For the game, Massachusetts out shot Saint Joseph's 22-18, as the Hawks' goalkeeper Courtney Huff made 11 saves to earn the victory.
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in A-10 play. Massachusetts falls to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Hawks return to action Friday at George Washington.
