The Saint Joseph's golf team opened the fall season with a solid showing Saturday morning, posting an opening-round 299 to earn a tie for fifth place at the Navy Fall Invitational.
In their first action since last May, the Hawks posted a 299 (+15) at the par-71 United States Naval Golf Course. George Mason and Siena are atop the leaderboard after each posting +9 293. Atlantic 10 rival George Washington stands third at 295 with Big-5 rival Penn in fourth at 298. Saint Joseph's begins tomorrow's final round tied with Towson and fellow A-10 team St. Bonaventure.
Individually, sophomore Colin Corrigan paced the Hawks posting an even-par 71 to earn a tie for fourth place individually. Corrigan currently trails first-round leader, Brian Bigley of Siena, by two strokes (69).
Senior Billy Stewart posted a one-over par 72 to earn a tie for seventh place. Newcomer Phil Arouca is tied for 21st after shooting 74 in his collegiate debut, while senior Sean Seese posted an 81. Ryan McCarty rounded out the five-man squad with an 86.
The final round of the Navy Fall Invitational begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
