BROOKLYN, NY - Saint Joseph's won its first game of the season with a 3-2 victory over Adelphi at the Courtyard by Marriott/LaGuardia Soccer Classic held at Long Island University.

Adelphi opened up the scoring with a goal by Dieudonne Nonga at 10:38 but the Hawks quickly responded as freshman Mike McInaw scored at 14:09 off an assist from Andrew Tursi to tie up the game.

Saint Joseph's took the lead at 25:39 when McInaw scored again, this time off a pass from sophomore Patrick Duddy. With 6:23 remaining in the first half, the Panthers tied the score with an unassisted goal by Einar Oddsson. At the end of the half, the Hawks had outshot the Panthers 11-4.

Goalie Rob Lavorerio came out strong in the second half for Saint Joseph's making 6 saves for a total of 8 for the day.

Despite being called for 21 fouls, 11 in the second half, and having freshman Nick Pozzessere receive a Yellow Card at 73:25, the Hawks were able to persevere and take the lead with a goal by sophomore Kevin Miller. The score came at 75:22 and was assisted by sophomore Ian Kane.

Saint Joseph's outshot Adelphi, 14-13, for the game. The win brings the Hawks' record to 1-3 and drops the Panthers' down to 1-4-1. SJU finished third overall in the tournament while Adelphi finished fourth.

The Hawks return to action in their 5th straight away game when they take on Wake Forest on September 20th.
