Hawks Claim Team Title, Stewart Wins Medalist at Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, NY - The Saint Joseph's golf team earned its first team title of the young season Sunday, winning the Cornell Invitational by 22 strokes. Senior Billy Stewart made it the second consecutive tournament a hawk earned medalist honors, earning the individual honors by four strokes.

The Hawks, held a 17-stroke lead heading into today's final round, posted a three-round score of 277-297-307/881 at the par-72 Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. Saint Joseph's finished 22 strokes ahead of second-place Niagara (903).

Individually, Stewart shot a final round 78, but held on for the medalist honor with a three-round score of 63-71-78/212. His opening-round 63 set a new course record. Stewart's medalist honor is the second on the season for the Hawks as sophomore Colin Corrigan earned the individual honor at the Navy Invitational two weeks ago.

Newcomer Phil Arouca posted a career-best third place finish, shooting a 67-77-73/217. Corrigan was the third Saint Joseph's golfer to finish in the top-10, placing eighth with a score of 70-74-80/224.

Senior Seasn Seese finished tied for 17th at 77-75-76/228, while rookie Steve Hudacek rounded out the five-man squad with a score of 81-82-84/247.

Saint Joseph's returns to action October 3-4 at the William & Mary Agee Invitational.
