Rhode Island scored six consecutive goals to roll to a 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's in men's soccer. The loss drops the Hawks to 1-10-3 and 0-4-1 in the Atlantic 10.
Sophomore Michael McInaw got the Hawks on the board early, with an unassisted goal at 7:23. McInaw pulled URI goalkeeper Chris Pennock out of the net and put the shot into the wide-open net.
Rhode Island countered immediately, with David Badecki knotting the score at 7:47. The Rams would score two more before halftime, including the first of two from Jeffrey Gonsalves.
Gonsalves opened the Rams' scoring in the second half at 61:45 to give URI a 4-1 lead. The Rams solidified the win with two more in the final 10 minutes.
Bryant Benedict had six saves in goal for SJU while Pennock gave up one goal but did not have any saves for URI. Mark Sauter played the final 24 minutes and made two saves as the Rams outshot the Hawks 21-3.
SJU returns to action next weekend, hosting Atlantic 10 matches next weekend versus Saint Louis and Duquesne, in the final home matches of the season.
