The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team had its two-game win streak snapped Wednesday evening as the Hawks fell to North Carolina State, 78-57, at Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack jumped out to a fast start and never looked back, opening a 16-2 edge to start the contest.
The Hawks fought back with a 7-0 run, bringing SJU within 16-9 with 1t the 12:09 mark.
Leading 22-14, North Carolina State opened a 37-19 advantage behind a 15-5 run and would take a 41-28 edge into the half.
Saint Joseph's rushed out of the gates in the second half. Using a 10-2 run to open, the Hawks were within 43-38 on a free throw by senior Whitney Ffrench at the 15:47 mark.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, that would be the closest they would get. North Carolina State responded with a 25-7 run over the next seven minutes, sealing the victory.
For the game, Saint Joseph's shot 42 percent from the floor (21-of-50), 7-of-15 from three-point range (46.7 percent), but just 8-of-15 from the foul line (53.3 percent). At the other end, the Wolfpack finished 32-of-61 from the floor (52.5 percent) and 12-of-14 from the foul line (85.7 percent). North Carolina State also took advantage of the Hawks' 21 turnovers, converting those into 32 points.
Individually, sophomore guard Jen Oyler led SJU with 16 points, while senior guard Ayahna Cornish added 15.
At the other end, Ashley Key led 11 Wolfpack scorers with 14 points.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-5 on the season, while the Wolfpack improves to 9-2.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Thursday, December 28 when it hosts Northeastern in the opening game of the Hawk Classic.
