The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell at Drexel Sunday afternoon as the Dragons downed the Hawks 17-8.
The Dragons opened the scoring 45 seconds into the game as Emily Hoesch scored the first of her team-high four goals off a pass from Katie Bradley.
Saint Joseph's tied the game two minutes later on an unassisted goal by junior Jen Egan.
Drexel responded five minutes later as Jessica Bill put the Dragons up 2-1, while Caterina Carafides added a third at 18:19. Drexel would never relinquish the lead from there.
Over the final 17 minutes of the half, Drexel outscored the Hawks 3-2 to take a 6-3 edge into the half.
In the second half, the Dragons opened up a 8-5, but goals a pair of goals by senior attacker Kerry O'Connell brought SJU within one, 8-7 with 19:36 remaining.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, Drexel went on to outscore Saint Joseph's 9-1 to end the game and hold on to the 17-8 win.
Individually, O'Connell led the Hawks with four goals, while sophomore Lindsey-Kate McCool added a goal and five assists for four points. Freshman Colleen Ingelby added two goals, while Egan finished with a goal.
At the other end, Hoesch led all scorers with four goals and two assists for six points.
With the loss, the Hawks fell to 1-1 on the season while Drexel improved to 4-0 with the win.
Saint Joseph's returns to action this Friday, March 16, at home versus Lehigh at 6 p.m.
