The Saint Joseph's golf team opened its spring season with a second place finish at the Ft. Lauderdale Spring Classic March 9-10.
The Hawks posted a two-round total of 294-299/593 at the Grande Oaks Golf Club (Par-71) to finish five strokes behind tournament winner St. Bonaventure (588).
Individually, junior Phil Arouca paced Saint Joseph's with 71-75/146 (+4) to finish in a tie for fourth place. Sophomore Colin Corrigan finished tied for 10th with a score of 73-75/148, while senior Billy Stewart tied for 15th with a 74-76/150. Junior Ryan McCarty posted a 76-76/152, while senior Sean Seese rounded finished with an 80-73/153.
Also competing for the Hawks were sophomore Garrett Basalyaga (79-77/156), freshman Steve Hudacek (81-75/156), junior Chris Reedman (82-76/158) and sophomore Bob Cunningham (84-77/161).
Detroit's Kyler Murphy won medalist honors by winning a playoff over Michael Mulieri of Loyola after the two posted scores of 144 apiece.
