Led by senior Kerry O'Connell's six goals, the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team won 11-6 at Lafayette Thursday evening.
The game didn't start out in the Hawks' favor, as Lafayette jumped out to a 2-0 lead just under five minutes into the game.
O'Connell cut the deficit to 2-1, tallying her first goal of the day at 24:52.
From there, the Leopards scored three straight over the next 22 minutes as Samantha Ziegler put Lafayette up 5-1 with 1:59 left in the first half.
O'Connell tallied her second goal of the game with 36 seconds remaining to cut Lafayette's lead to 5-2 at the break.
In the second half, O'Connell cut the deficit to 5-3 just four minutes in, but the Leopards regained their three goal edge less than a minute later.
Trailing 6-3 with 25:35 remaining in the game, the Hawks' defense stiffened and their offense took over.
Saint Joseph's scored the final eight goals of the game, as O'Connell put SJU up 7-6 off a pass from sophomore Lindsey Kate McCool at 17:33.
Between the pipes, junior Sarah Magan stopped the final six Lafayette shots to earn the victory.
Individually, O'Connell led all scorers with six goals, while McCool finished with four points on a goal and three assists.
At the other end, Kaleigh Mountain led Lafayette with two goals.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 2-3 on the season, while Lafayette falls to 3-3.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Saturday at George Mason. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
