The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell 18-8 at George Mason Saturday afternoon as the Patriots outscored the Hawks 13-3 in the opening half.
The Hawks got on the scoreboard first in the third minute of play as senior Kerry O'Connell scored an unassisted goal.
From there, George Mason score five straight over the next seven minutes to take a 5-1 edge on a Laura King goal at 20:53.
Saint Joseph's scored two of the next three goals to cut the deficit to 6-3 as O'Connell and sophomore Lindsey Kate McCool scored within a five-minute span.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Patriots scored seven straight goals to end the first half to take a 13-3 edge into the locker room.
In the second half, Jessica Westlake scored the opening goal of the stanza for the Hawks, but the Patriots retaliated with three straight goals to open a 16-4 edge with 20:41 remaining.
Saint Joseph's rebounded with four goals of its own from McCool, Karen Wiley, Kristina Jaggers and Helene Tursi.
Despite cutting the score to 16-8 with 10 minutes remaining, the Hawks were held scoreless over the remaining time as George Mason added two insurance goals.
For the game, George Mason out shot the Hawks 34-22 as Sarah Magan made four saves in net for Saint Joseph's.
Individually, O'Connell and McCool led the way for SJU with two goals apiece.
At the other end, Jenna Celano paced the Patriots with two goals and three assists for five points.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-4 on the season, while George Mason improves to 4-2.
Saint Joseph's returns to action April 1 when the Hawks host La Salle.
