The Saint Joseph's golf team is in 16th place after posting a two-round score of 309-325/634 in the first day of the St. Mary's/Merrill Lynch Invitational Monday.
The Hawks shot a 309 in the morning round at the Poppy Hills (Par 72) and finished with a score of 325 in the second round for a score of 635. Saint Joseph's trails tournament leader and Atlantic 10 foe Xavier (593).
Individually, junior Phil Arouca paced the Hawks with scores of 74-78/152, tying for 28th place. Senior Billy Stewart is tied for 39th at 76-78/154, while junior Ryan McCarty shot 75-87/162. Senior Classmate Sean Seese and sophomore Colin Corrigan posted scores of 84-83/167 and 87-86/173, respectively.
Fresno State's Jason Anthony (143) enters Tuesday's final round with a two-stroke lead for medalist honors.
Day two of the St. Mary's College Invitational begins at 7:30 a.m. (PST).
