Saint Joseph's concluded its season with a 12-10 conference loss to St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field. Graduating Hawk Kerry O'Connell, who was honored before the game, lead the team in goals (3) and assists (2) in her final game playing for the Crimson and Gray.
Jenny Egan and Kristina Jaggers also added two goals apiece while Alison Bean, Lindsey- Kate McCool, and Karen Wiley each netted one in the two-goal loss to the Bonnies (14-2, 5-2 in the A-10).
St. Bonaventure jumped out to an early lead scoring two goals in the first four minutes of play but Saint Joseph's managed to fight back with goals from O'Connell and Jaggers to tie the score. From there the game was back and forth with the Hawks managing to keep pace with the Bonnies both on the field and the scoreboard. Down by one in the last minute of the first half, Bean put one in the back of the net assisted by O'Connell to make the score 6-6 at the half.
The Hawks opened up the second half with a frenzied scoring spree that started with O'Connell scoring her third goal off a pass from McCool. Egan and then McCool both scored unassisted goals making the score 9-6 before the Bonnies were able to answer back. St. Bonaventure took the lead with 10:22 remaining and never lost it. The Hawks were able to get back to within one with a goal by Egan at 5:54 but St. Bonaventure held on, warding off five shots taken by the Hawks including two free position attempts. The Bonnies then sealed their lead netting another goal with 15 second remaining.
Saint Joseph's picked up 34 groundballs and got off 26 shots for the day. O'Connell led the Hawks with seven groundballs in the game.
Egan, who also graduates this year, was also recognized before the game.
