Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington's comeback attempt proved to be too much for Saint Joseph's as the women's lacrosse team lost 10-9 in overtime Friday evening at Finnesey Field.

Kristina Jaggers and Jessica Westlake led the scoring for the Hawks with two goals a piece, and Christina Colangelo earned three points for herself with a goal and two assists for the day.

The Colonials opened up the less than a minute into the game but the Hawks quickly answered with a goal by Westlake. St. Joe's went on to take the lead a few minutes later as Colangelo scored off a quick pass from Lindsey McCool to make the score 2-1. George Washington turned around and tied it up, then took the lead which lasted for less than two minutes before Kristina Jaggers tied it up again at 3-3. The Hawks went on to re-take the lead with a goal by McCool. Westlake and Jaggers each added a goal before the end of the first half.

The Hawks continued to widen the gap in the second half adding goals by Jenny Egan assisted by Colangelo, Kerry O'Connell from Colangelo, and Karen Wiley to bring the score to 9-3. The Colonials finally answered back at 22:46 with a goal by Lauren Bower. Bower's goal kick-started George Washington's comeback and Saint Joseph's was unable to answer back. Regulation ended with the score tied at 9-9.

In overtime, George Washington got off the first shot which was saved by Hawks' goalie Sarah Magan. The Colonials were able to come back down the field after the second face-off and scored with a questionable goal that the officials decided hit Magan and crossed the goal line while bouncing on the ground. The Hawks managed to fire four more shots on goal before time expired but none found the back of the net.

The loss brings Saint Joseph's record to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10. Each team received three yellow cards throughout the game. St. Joe's picked up 26 groundballs.

The Hawks return to action Thursday April 13th at 5:00pm as they take on Massachusetts at home.
