Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Navy built and 2-0 lead en route to a 3-1 win over Saint Joseph's at the adidas Soccer Classic hosted by UMBC. The loss drops the Hawks to 0-2 on the season.

For Navy (1-1), senior forward McKenzie Plank scored just 5:10 into the game and freshman linemate Andrew Garcia doubled the advantage, converting Plank's short cross, in the 35th minute.

But SJU sophomore Michael McInaw got a head on a long free kick by classmate Nick Pozzessere and cut the Navy lead in half just 17 seconds after Garcia's strike. It was the first goal of the year for McInaw, who led the Hawks in scoring last season.

The teams battled through an even second half and a pressing Hawk squad was caught on a Navy two-on-one break and junior forward Travis King knocked in Carter Stapleton's pass at 89:10 for the final goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Joe Bodnar made five saves on the day for SJU.

Virginia Tech, ranked 25th, beat UMBC, 3-2, in the second game of the day.

The Hawks return home to host rival Villanova in a Soccer Seven match on Thursday, August 30, at 7 p.m.
