The Saint Joseph's field hockey team looked flawless Saturday afternoon at Finnesey Field as the Hawks shutout Fairfield 6-0. Offensively, Saint Joseph's received contributions from eight different Hawks, while the SJU defense held the Stags to only two shots on the day.
Hawks' senior forward Lauren Luft opened the scoring at 7:29 as she found the back of the net on a breakaway, beating Fairfield's goalkeeper Elizabeth Thomas to her left.
Saint Joseph's extended its lead to 2-0 less than two minutes later as Luft's shot was deflected in by classmate Nicole Antonini).
Leading by two in the second half, the Hawks extended their lead on a pair of goals by junior Brianne Miller and goals by senior Chalsie Agro and sophomore Marissa Pizzi.
For the game, Saint Joseph's out shot the Stags 13-2, as Hawks' junior keeper Rebecca Cunfer earned the shutout.
Individually, Miller led the Hawks offense with two goals and an assist, while Luft finished the game with a goal and two assists and Antonini added a goal and an assist.
At the other end, Chelsea Hicks and Caitlin Quinn registered a shot apiece.
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 5-2 on the season, while Fairfield falls to 2-5.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, September 17, at Delaware. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
