Saint Joseph's junior Michael McInaw had one goal to help the Hawks tie NJIT in men's soccer action today. The tie snapped a five-game losing skid for SJU, improving its record to 1-6-1. NJIT is now 1-8-1.
McInaw scored early in the first half, taking a pass from sophomore Travis Gast, and converting at 47:15. It was the first goal of the year for McInaw, who has been the Hawks' leading scorer for the past two seasons.
The Hawks held the lead until the 77th minute when NJIT's Gustav Warvfing netted the equalizer off a pass from Erik Magnusson.
The teams battled through two scoreless overtime periods. SJU's Bryan Benedict made five saves on the day. Josh Osit had 10 saves for the home team, while Saint Joseph's outshot NJIT, 19-11.
The Hawks return to action in a week, hosting Temple on October 13 at 7 p.m.
