Box Score

PROVIDENCE, RI - Sparked by a career-high 20-point performance by Brown Basketball Classic MVP Amy Wold, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team topped the Bears, 65-54, to claim the tournament title Sunday afternoon. Wold was joined by classmate Timisha Gomez on the All-Tournament Team as the Hawks improved to 5-2 on the season with the win.

The Hawks (5-2) had a solid start to the ball game, scoring the first five points of the game and jumping out to an 11-5 edge on a layup by freshman center Sarah Acker at 14:22.

Brown refused to back down to SJU, as the Bears tied the game at 17 all on jumpshot by Amy Ehrhart with 9:26 left in the stanza.

From there though, the Hawks broke the game open behind an 11-0 run. After a layup by sophomore forward Ashley Logue, Saint Joseph's buried three straight three pointers, as junior guard Jenna Loschiavo put the Hawks up 28-17 at the 6:15 mark.

Saint Joseph's twice extended its lead to 12 over the final minutes, but took a 34-23 lead into the half after shooting 14-of-32 from the floor (43.8 percent) and holding Brown to 9-of-29 (31 percent).

The Hawks expanded their lead to as many as 16 in the second half, but a poor shooting performance allowed Brown to climb back into the game. Saint Joseph's shot just 23.8 percent (5-of-21), as the Bears used a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to 53-47 with 4:08 remaining in the game.

After SJU expanded their lead back to nine, Brown cut the deficit to 56-51 on a Courtney Lee with 1:51 to go.

Saint Joseph's remained calm though, and sealed the game from the foul line, going 9-of-10 from the stripe.

Wold's 20 points led the Hawks as she added seven assists and four rebounds. Logue posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Loschiavo was the only other Hawk in double digits, adding 11.

Brown (1-8) was paced by All-Tournament Team selection Amy Erhardt's 16 points as teammate Christina Johnson joined her on the All-Tournament Team.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Wednesday as the Hawks make a trip up the Main Line to face Villanova at 7 p.m.
