Princeton, NJ -
Saint Joseph's men's tennis fell to the nationally ranked Princeton Tigers, 6-1, Saturday, February 24th at the Jadwin Gym. First flight singles and doubles player Jarrett Chirico won both his matches.
Chirico and Phil Bayliss teamed up in the number one slot to earn the only doubles win for the Hawks. Despite the pair's 8-4 win, SJU lost the doubles point as Princeton went on to win the number two and three doubles match-ups.
In singles play, it was a hard fought contest for the Crimson and Gray, with four of the six singles matches going the full three sets. Chirico again slotted a victory for the Hawks, defeating Peter Capkovic in first flight action, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Bayliss' second flight match also went three sets, as he lost a close match, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(3). Pat Adams and Lucho Perez-Abreu were the other two matches to go the full three sets.
Chris Chirico, usually in the number two slot, has not yet returned from injury.
The Hawks enjoy a short break before heading off to the west coast to take part in the Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament over spring break. Among their opponents will be nationally ranked #35 Rice University. The tournament runs March 2-4.
