PHILADELPHIA -
Saint Joseph's men's rowing was slated to open its spring season last Saturday, March 17th at the Jesuit Invitational Regatta on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ. But the luck of the Irish was not with the Hawks. Due to the sleet and snowstorm that moved into the Northeast last Friday, the event had to be canceled as travel conditions were unsafe for visiting teams.
Head Coach Drew Hill was eager to make up the race. "We train six days a
week from September through March for our spring racing season that consists
of five regular season races, our league championship (Dad Vails), and if we
qualify, the IRA National Championship. So for us the cancellation of
Jesuits meant that we had one less opportunity to compete."
This past week Hill rescheduled the competition, getting Georgetown, Holy Cross and Loyola to join the Hawks in a make up race this Sunday, March 25 on the Cooper River. Racing begins at 9:00 AM.
The other four regular season events for the Hawks include the George
Washington Invitational in Washington, DC (April 6 & 7), a dual race against
Delaware at home on the Schuylkill River (April 14), the SIRA Regatta in
Tennessee (April 20 - 22), and the Bergen Cup at home on the Schuylkill
River (April 28).
The Hawks will then have two weeks to train and take finals before the Dad
Vail Regatta on May 11 & 12.
