PHILADELPHIA -
The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team finished in second place in the quest to defend its Varsity 8 title at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River. The Hawk men's team also placed second in the Second Varsity 8. The Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the nation.
The men placed second behind Lehigh while the women finished second to Purdue in Varsity 8 races.
In the Men's Freshman 8, the favored Hawks placed third behind Bucknell and Delaware, while the Men's Lightweight 8 was second, in the race won by Georgia Tech.
In another final, the Women's Junior Varsity 8 placed fifth.
Saint Joseph's was last year's Kerr Trophy winner for most points in the men's standings, but that title went to Purdue for 2007.
