PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team turned in a strong performance at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River, the largest collegiate regatta in the nation.

SJU, the defending team champion, saw Purdue win the team title, but the Hawks still earned medals in two races- the Lightweight 8 and the Freshman 8.

The Lightweight 8 (Jon Schneckenburger, Kevin Burrows, Stephen Ramsey, Adam Stoll, Marc Malott, William West, Jordan Marwin, Kevin Jacobs and cox Lauren Moran) took the silver medal for the second year in a row behind Georgia Tech.

The Freshman 8 boat of David Lemon, Mike O'Rourke, Conor Malone and cox Trevor Curran came from fourth place in an impressive sprint to finish third.

The Hawks placed second in the Varsity 8 Petit Final, finishing behind Lehigh. That boat was comprised of Chris Garafalo and cox Sarah Jost.

Saint Joseph's finished second in the overall points standings (men's and women's teams) garnering 31 points. Purdue won the Jack Bratten Trophy with 46 points.

The Hawks now wait to hear which boats will represent SJU in the IRA Championships on May 31-June 2.
