Men's Soccer Drops Tough 2-0 Decision to Rider

Sept. 15, 2007

Box Score

The Broncs of Rider University used timely goals and stingy defense for a 2-0 win over Saint Joseph's at Finnesey Field.

Kevin Jurska put the Broncs ahead with a header just three minutes into the game. The goal came off a Colin Jennings free kick.

Saint Joseph's held the pace of play for most of the game outshooting the Broncs 20-6. The best chance the Hawks manufactured came with four minutes to go in regulation when Giacomo DiLisi almost headed in a goal off a free kick.

Shortly thereafter, Rider's Jim Slattery laid the final blow. He took possession of a throw-in on the far sideline and dribbled the ball 40 yards into the penalty area to blast home the insurance goal with 42 seconds to play. The goal was symbolic of an evening where Rider's opportunistic offense served them well.

Bryan Benedict had two saves and Nick Pozzessere had six shots for for the Hawks, who fell to 1-3-0 on the 2007 season. They are in action on Monday at Pittsburgh. The game time is 7:00 p.m.
