WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's men's tennis squad opened up the spring half of its schedule this weekend at the Army Invitational in West Point, N.Y. Senior Jarrett Chirico and junior Phil Bayliss led the way for the Hawks, placing second in the top doubles flight. Chirico was also the highest-placing Hawk on the singles side, taking fourth in #1 singles.

Chirico recorded a 1-1 record in the round robin stage of the tournament to qualify for a spot in the third-place match for the top flight. The senior from Bradenton, Fla. trailed Colgate's Martin MacIntyre, 6-2, 4-3, when he retired from the match.

Pat Adams (#2), Will Pearson (#3), Nick Tuxen (#4), Phil Garabedian (#6), and Matt Prusack (#7) were victorious in the fifth-place matches in their respective flights.

On the doubles side, Chirico and Bayliss defeated pairs from Binghamton and Marist to reach the top flight's championship match. Unfortunately for SJU, the Hawk duo fell to Army's twosome by an 8-6 score.

Saint Joseph's earned a third-place finish in #3 doubles as Garabedian and Prusack defeated the pair from Colgate, 8-4. Pearson teamed up with Patrick Cerutti to take fifth place in the #2 flight, recording an 8-4 victory over another duo from Colgate.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Saturday, January 26, as the Hawks hit the road to take on Penn State.
