AMBLER, Pa. -- The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team couldn't hold off their crosstown rivals Temple on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Owls, 2-0, at Temple's Ambler Soccer Complex.
In a game that was played in windy conditions the entire time, and rainy conditions in the second half, Temple wore down SJU after a scoreless 71 minutes.
Temple (7-4-3, 3-1-1 Atlantic 10) finally cracked the stingy Hawk defense in the 72nd minute when Matt Chevrollier put away a cross from Francois Sagna.
Saint Joseph's (3-6-2, 0-4-1 Atlantic 10) looked to return the favor, but the Owls fought back again exactly 11 minutes later when Brian Weinhardt's header found the back of the net.
Saint Joseph's saw shots on goal from Brendan Duddy and Tom Johnson saved in the first half. Joe Bodnar made his first start of the season in net for SJU stopping three Owls' shots.
The Hawks will cap the season with a four-game homestand starting Friday night when they host Xavier. The kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader when the Saint Joseph's women's squad will take the pitch at 7:30 p.m. on Halloween night.
