PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Sarah Acker scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Saint Joseph's (14-13, 6-6 A-10), but 17th-ranked George Washington (22-5, 10-2 A-10) dominated the paint to secure a hard-fought 61-53 victory in Atlantic 10 acion at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

A sloppy game in which each team turned the ball over 18 times, the contest remained tight, featuring eight ties and five lead changes. G.W. clung to a two-point advantage (55-53) with 1:29 remaining. The Colonials, however, iced the game by scoring the final six points, including a key three-point basket by Antelia Parrish and late free throws by Kimberly Beck.

SJU held an early lead in the contest and remained within stiking distance in the second half by sinking five out of 12 three-pointers after intermission, including three by senior Amy Wold, who finshed with 10 points. Fellow senior Timisha Gomez also added 10 points.

The Crimson and Gray found it difficult to control G.W. in the paint, as the Colonials outscored them 38-22. Jessica Adair paced the Buff and Blue with 20 points. .

The Hawks retired assistant coach Susan Moran's number (10) in pregame ceremonies. SJU returns to action on Wednesday, February 27 at La Salle.
