Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Marisa Pizzi and junior Kellie Walter scored two goals each as the Saint Joseph's field hockey team opened its 2008 season with a dominant 6-0 victory over Bryant University on Friday afternoon. The game, held at Drexel's Buckley Field, marked the Bulldogs' debut in Division I.

The Hawks started the scoring just under two minutes after the opening whistle as Pizzi scored her first of the day on an assist from sophomore Jen Wrublesky. The pair hooked up again seven minutes later to double the Hawk lead to 2-0.

Saint Joseph's (1-0) added two more goals before halftime as Jennifer Schultz scored an unassisted tally and Walter tucked her first of the season into the open left side of the cage off an assist from Krista Bordogna.

Bryant (0-1) was able to muster some offensive pressure early in the second half, but SJU struck again with just over 20 minutes remaining as Anne Schreuders scored a goal from a penalty corner, with assists going to Walter and Schultz. Walter closed the scoring seven minutes later on a goal that also provided freshman Theresa Testa with her first collegiate assist.

Redshirt freshman Kelly Swanick got the start in goal for Saint Joseph's and made two saves to record her first career win and shutout.

The Hawks return to action on Sunday, August 31 at noon with a home game against Indiana. SJU will play its home games at Drexel University's Buckley Field this season while renovations to the new Maguire Campus are underway.
