PHILADELPHIA -
The Saint Joseph's field hockey team dropped a 5-1 result to the Drexel Dragons on Wednesday night, ending the team's four-game winning streak. Junior Kellie Walter scored her sixth goal of the year in the second half to regain the team lead in points with 13.
Drexel (5-2) jumped on top quickly as Carolina Gibernau tallied just two and a half minutes in for a 1-0 lead. Just after the 11:00 mark, Jennifer Bolger doubled the margin with a goal off a penalty corner. Twelve minutes later, a pair of goals within a four-minute span doubled the Dragon lead once again and DU took a 4-0 cushion at halftime.
Kim Tunell would give Drexel a 5-0 lead midway through the second stanza before Saint Joseph's (5-2) would get on the board via Walter's goal. On the play, senior Krista Bordogna notched an assist.
Walter now leads the Hawks with six goals and 13 points, surpassing her point total for all of 2007 (12) in just six games.
For the Dragons, Bolger, Gibernau, and Tunell all notched a goal and an assist to pace the squad offensively.
Redshirt freshman Kelly Swanick made three saves in the cage for SJU. Senior Gabriella Schrier also saw time in goal late in the contest.
The Hawks will attempt to rebound on Sunday with their fourth consecutive matchup against a school from the Colonial Athletic Association. SJU will travel to Newark, Del. to face-off with the Delaware Blue Hens in a 1:00 game.
