Adams and Kessler Earn Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Weekly Awards

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's men's tennis senior Pat Adams and freshman Jeff Kessler were named the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Co-Performer of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced on Monday. The honor is the first for both Hawks, and the first men's tennis award winners for new head coach Ian Crookenden.

Adams improved to 7-3 in singles play for the 2008-09 season by winning a pair of top-flight singles matches on Saturday afternoon. Adams defeated Jay Gramatica of Saint Peter's, 6-1, 6-3 in the early match before recording another straight-set victory later in the day over La Salle's George Gennaoui, 6-2, 6-0.

Kessler took both of his number-four singles matches in straight sets as well, dropping SPC's Chris Frakes 6-1, 6-4 and Fernando Tovia of La Salle 6-2, 6-4. Kessler's mark for the season improved to 6-8.

Saint Joseph's took both matches on the day, defeating the host, Saint Peter's, 4-1, before beating conference and city rival La Salle, 5-0. SJU will next travel to Annapolis, Md. to take on Navy on Saturday, February 14th.
