Herlihy Named A-10 Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week for Second Time

PHILADELPHIA---Senior goalkeeper Suzy Herlihy (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) was named Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the Conference. This is the second time Herlihy has earned the award, which she earned leading the team to a 2-0 weekend.

Herlihy was stellar in two games against St. Bonaventure and Duquesne. SJU beat the Bonnies, 12-5, for the first time in Olean, N.Y. since 2001 and defeated the Dukes, 15-10, for the first time in 11 tries on Sunday.

The standout netminder went 2-0 with a 7.50 goals against average while making 32 saves (.681) in 120 minutes played. She also nabbed two ground balls and caused two turnovers. In the Duquesne game her 12 second-half stops were the difference for the Hawks as the Dukes made a furious comeback.

Herlihy won the award for the second time this season as by the league office honored her on February 23 for her performance against Lafayette.

The 2008 A-10 Second Team honoree is well on her way to receiving postseason awards again 2009 as she leads the Atlantic 10 in goals against average (8.57) by two-plus goals and save percentage (.543) by .042.

Herlihy is the all-time leader in wins with 21 and sits in second all-time in program history for goals against average (8.93), third in saves (431) and fourth in save percentage (.519).

Saint Joseph's has garnered six weekly awards this season, three players and three rookies of the week, respectively. Helene Tursi (3/23), Herlihy (2/23, 4/6) have won Players of the Week, while Meghan McDevitt (2/16), Julie Mineweaser (2/23), Jen Peters (3/2) have been named as Rookies of the Week this season.

The Hawks are 7-6 overall and 3-1 in Atlantic 10 play for the first time ever. A win on Thursday over cross-town rival La Salle will see SJU capture its first A-10 Championship berth since 2001 and would match the most wins in a season set in 1996 and 2004. The Explorers and Hawks square off at 3:00 p.m. on Finnesey Field.
