Abby Renninger Selected to Play in IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star Game

May 20, 2009

PHILADELPHIA—Senior Abby Renninger has been selected to play in the IWLCA/Under Armor Division I North-South Senior All-Star Game slated for June 13.  The honor, the first ever for a Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse player, will be played at United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. at 1:00 p.m.

Renninger, a 2009 Atlantic 10 First Team and A-10 All-Championship honoree, led the team from the defensive position this season.  She recorded the second-most caused turnovers (27) on the squad, while tallying eight goals and eight assists.

As one of four captains of the Hawks, Renninger displayed the amazing ability to defend and score in her three years on Hawk Hill.  She amassed totals of 38 goals, 22 assists and 94 ground balls during her career, which also included one season at Boston University.  Renninger ranks third all-time in SJU history with 61 caused turnovers.

No player has ever been selected to play in the North-South Senior All-Star Game before and is another first for a Hawk program that had many in 2009.  SJU reached its first A-10 Championship Title Game, while also beating Richmond and Duquesne for the first time.

Additionally, the team set records for most goals (207), points (285), and shots (538) in a season, while Jenna Martino set new marks in goals (57) and points (76).  The team ranked in the top ten nationally in goals against average and scoring defense, much of that due to the stellar play of Renninger.
