Saint Joseph's graduate Phil Bayliss has been named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year for Men's Tennis, as selected by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors (Philly SIDA).
Bayliss was named to the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis All-Academic Team. He achieved five wins at the second singles flight and eight victories in the first doubles flight this season. He co-captained the team to eighth place at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championships and earned wins in both singles and doubles in the first round victory over Dayton.
A management major, the native of York, Pa. achieved the highest grade-point average of all upperclassmen on the SJU tennis squad with a 3.59. Bayliss is a member of both the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's and Saint Joseph's Athletic Director's Honor Rolls and ranks ninth in SJU history with 40 career singles victories.
