Martino and Westlake Named to Academic All-Area Team

July 22, 2009

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse standouts Jenna Martino and Jessica Westlake were recently named to the Philadelphia Academic All-Area Team in a vote conducted by the sports information directors of the local colleges and universities.

On the field, the pair helped lead the Hawks to their first appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship game in 2009. Martino led the team in all three scoring categories, tallying 57 goals, 19 assists and 76 points. The goals and points marks represent new single-season records for Saint Joseph's. For her efforts, she was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team.

Westlake was the squad's leader in draw controls, garnering 30 for the season. She also poured in 22 goals and a career-high 10 assists to total 32 points. She finished her career on Hawk Hill with 74 goals, good for 11th in SJU history.

Off the field, the pair were among the top students on the team. Westlake was honored with the team's Scholar-Athlete Award and was also named to the A-10 All-Academic Team for the second straight year as well. This is the first academic team nod for Martino.
