Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to Drexel on Sunday, 8-0. Susan Ciufo and Christina Mastropaolo each tallied a pair of goals for the Dragons.

Drexel (5-0) opened up the scoring 11:11 into the game on a penalty stroke goal by Sofia Sanguinetti. Ciufo added her fifth of the season 11 minutes later while Mastropaolo scored her seventh with seven minutes to go in the half.

The second stanza saw more of the same, as Saint Joseph's (0-5) was held without a shot. One minute into the period, Mastropaolo went around keeper Kelly Swanick after a long run to tally her second of the game.

Less than two minutes later, Swanick came up big on a penalty stroke by Kim Tunell, making the save to keep the deficit at four.

Not long after, however, Ciufo notched her second of the day on a rebound in front of the cage to put the Dragons up by five.

Brittney Hausman, Mariel Marinelli and Carolina Gibernau added goals for Drexel to close out the scoring.

Liz Messaros made three saves in her first collegiate start. Swanick played the second half and notched four saves, while freshman Leigh Deininger tallied her first career defensive save late in the first half.

The Hawks will head out on the road for the first time this season, traveling to Evanston, Ill. to take on Missouri State and Northwestern. The Hawks will face Missouri State on Saturday before battling the hometown Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
