The inaugural Saint Joseph's Invitational men's tennis tournament kicked off on Friday afternoon with opening round singles matches at the new SJU Tennis Complex at the Maguire Campus. A pair of Hawks, senior Matt Prusack and sophomore Jeff Kessler, lost in their matches in the first singles flight.
Prusack fell to Laurence Heads of Monmouth, 6-3, 6-3. Kessler also fell in straight sets, dropping his match to UMBC's Chris Meyer, 6-1, 6-2. Both players will compete in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
Kessler and Peter Cognetti were slated to compete in Doubles Flight 1 against a duo from Monmouth, but advanced to the quarterfinals due to a withdrawal. They will face a team from Penn on Saturday.
