Sept. 4, 2009

Box Score

Annapolis, Md. - The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team fell to Navy, 3-1 in their season opener at the Navy Soccer Classic on Friday night. Junior Rocco Pozzessere scored the lone goal for the Hawks.

Navy took the lead early, sliding a shot past freshman goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi only 1:26 into the match. Pozzessere answered back soon after, knocking a shot off the crossbar into the back of the net with the assist coming from sophomore Nico Galati. Navy regained the lead with less than five minutes remaining when a shot deflected off D'Ottavi into the goal.

In the second half, Wes Powell's low shot off a free kick would give Navy a two-goal lead with 26 minutes left to play. Despite Saint Joseph's efforts, the Hawks wouldn't connect on any shots in the remainder of the game.

D'Ottavi made four saves in his debut in net for the Hawks.

The Hawks return to action on Sunday in the Navy Soccer Classic against UMBC for a 1:00 p.m. match.
