Men's Soccer Falls to UMBC, 6-0

Annapolis, Md. - The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team lost to UMBC, 6-0 in their second game at the Navy Soccer Classic on Sunday afternoon. Freshman goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi made seven saves in net.

The Hawks played an even game until the 24:38 mark when UMBC's Andrew Bulls scored off a free kick at the top of the box. The Retrievers would score again when Bulls set Levi Houapeu up for a shot on net with eight minutes remaining to end the half at 2-0.

SJU got off to a bad start in the second half when Bulls placed a free kick into the middle and Houpeu chipped in another. Less than a minute later, Houpeu then set Bulls up with a ball played into the middle of the field and the Retrievers would score again to make it a 4-0 game at 59:08. UMBC's Matt Knight would then add two more at the 73rd and 82nd minutes to seal the win at 6-0.

The Hawks goalkeepers, D'Ottavi and Bryan Benedict, totaled 10 saves in net, while D'Ottavi had seven and Benedict made three. The Hawks defense also pulled UMBC offisides a total of seven times despite their losing efforts.

The Hawks (0-2-0) host Drexel on Wednesday at Finnesey Field for a 7:00 p.m. match.
