The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team fell to Charlotte, 3-0, at Transamerica Field on Friday night. Saint Joseph's freshman goalkeeper Michael Moulton made a career-high 12 saves on the night.
Moulton made five saves as the 49ers fired 11 shots in the first 33:31. Charlotte's Evan James put the 49ers up 1-0 when he blasted a ball from the top of the box that curved inside the far post.
Charlotte got four more shots off before the break, with Moulton saving two, and didn't allow SJU a single shot in the frame as they headed into halftime, 1-0.
Seven minutes into the second half, Charlotte's Andres Cuero pushed the lead to 2-0 and then to 3-0 just 1:16 later. Cuero headed the first ball into the net off a cross from teammate Paul Willoughby and knocked the second one in off a rebound from Charles Rodriguez's shot.
Saint Joseph's Colin Baker had one of the Hawks' two shots in the game which went wide in the 86th minute while Jimmy Reilly took a shot with two seconds left to play. The Hawks were called offsides twice in their two other offensive opportunities while Charlotte sent a total of 30 shots Moultons way.
SJU travels to Saint Louis next, for a 3:00 p.m. (ET) match against the Billikens.
