Saint Joseph's men's soccer team fell, 1-0, to Duquesne after a late Dukes' goal in the first game of the Pitt Nike Tournament on Friday. Yiannys Degermentzidis made seven saves in net for the Hawks.
Duquesne outshot the Hawks 12-1 in the first half but Degermentzidis kept the Hawks in the game with six saves in the frame. The only scoring opportunity in the half came from senior Colin Baker's shot that sailed just over the crossbar.
In the second half, the Hawks battled with the Dukes, allowing them just five shots while creating a few scoring opportunities on their end, with four shots and two corner kicks.
At the 81:45 mark Duquesne's Stefan Lundberg got the game-winning goal off a pass from teammate Jamie Waugh. Hawks' senior Giacomo DiLisi tried to get SJU on the board in the 83rd minute but his shot went wide.
The Hawks (0-3) will face Pittsburgh on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in their second game of the Pitt Nike Tournament.
