Indianapolis, Ind - Saint Joseph's senior Kevin McDonnell qualified for the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships for the second year in a row after his performance on Saturday at the Mid-Atlantic Regional. McDonnell placed 4th in the region and was officially entered into the National Championship on Sunday when the NCAA announced the 31 teams and its additional 38 individual qualifiers.
McDonnell was chosen for one of the four individual spots from the Mid-Atlantic Region to the Championship race on Monday, November 21. He will be joined by Penn State's Kyle Dawson and Vince McNally and Marshall's Matthew Schiffbauer to represent the region.
McDonnell's achievement marks the sixth time a runner has earned a chance to compete for the NCAA Championship under head coach Mike Glavin who is in his 23rd year on Hawk Hill.
The race is set to begin at 12:58 p.m. at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located in the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. In addition, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show scheduled to air on Saturday, December 18 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. ET on CBS HD.
