PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team dropped a tough game to Bucknell University Friday night 1-0. The Hawks played a well-disciplined team very strong, allowing a single goal.
Head coach Don D'Ambra was pleased when asked how his team played, saying "We played with a lot of character, enthusiasm, and showed a great commitment to defense." The stingy play of the defense allowed Saint Joseph's to stay in the game the entire night.
D'Ambra added "I am proud of the job we did stopping the re-starts and defending set pieces from Bucknell." SJU allowed the Bison to convert on one opportunity off of a free kick about 40 yards out, which was then headed in by Luke Joyner.
Greg Rom and Brendan Reilly played very steady on the back line, continuously breaking up a lot of plays by the Bison. Saint Joseph's has taken a lot of pride on the defensive side of the ball getting better each game.
Offensively, Alex Critzos was at it again creating chances for the Hawks. SJU fell two shot shy of tying their season high in with nine. Tommy Brooks and Pat McGlynn each added a shots that could not find the back of the net.
The Hawks will have a week to prepare for their next match when Cornell comes to Finnesey Field. The game time is set for 7:30 pm.
