KINGSTON, R.I. - Just 1:38 into overtime, freshman forward Emmanuel Temeh netted his second goal of the game on a shot from inside the box to lift Saint Joseph's over Rhode Island by a final score of 3-2 in Atlantic 10 conference action on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks stand at 5-8-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the A-10 and are now 3-1 in overtime games.

Tied 1-1 after the first half, senior goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi made back-to-back saves in the 47th minute to keep the Hawks equal with the Rams. At the 58:02 minute-mark, another Hawks goal would come as sophomore forward Mike Glazer found freshman midfielder Tim Lazorko. Lazorko received Glazer's pass from the center of the field and fired his shot into the far right side of Rhode Island's net for his fourth goal of the season.

"Tim is showing great determination at the most important times," said head coach Don D'Ambra. "He has established himself as a leader on the field."

After a Rams penalty that forced Rhode Island to play a man down from the 68th minute on, URI found a way to even the score. Rhode Island (2-7-3, 1-1-1 A-10) came back in the 75th minute when Ross Morison netted an equalizer for the Rams.

URI would attempt two more shots on goal, but D'Ottavi denied the opponents' efforts and made two brilliant saves to send the match into overtime.

D'Ottavi made eight saves on the day to put him at 257 total saves for his career. With his final save at the 86:38 mark to force the game into overtime, D'Ottavi passed Brian Benedict (2005-10) to grab the fifth spot in all-time career saves at Saint Joseph's with 257.

After being tied 2-2 at the conclusion of regulation, Saint Joseph's sophomore Alex Critzos and Lazorko found Temeh for the goal.

"I was happy with Emmanuel's performance," said D'Ambra of his freshman. "He brought good energy and was able to find the ball around the goal and finish his chances."

In the first half, after URI's Matt Ribbens gave Rhode Island an early lead on a goal at the 11:19 mark, a spark appeared in the Hawks offense in the form of Temeh's first collegiate goal. Just 1:27 after subbing into the game, Temeh gained possession of the ball and drove an unassisted shot past URI's Thomas Spenser into the back of Rhode Island's net.

For the game, URI held the advantage in total shots (24-17), shots on goal (10-9), and corner kicks (5-3), but D'Ottavi made eight saves on the Rams' 10 shots on goal to preserve the win for the Hawks.

"I was very pleased that our team was able to stay composed throughout today's match," said D'Ambra of Saint Joseph's overall performance. "The game was back and forth and each team had periods of momentum. Our team is getting better in playing in these pressure-type games. They are making good decisions."

The Hawks return home for their final home stand this weekend as they host St. Louis on Friday, October 19. Game time is schedule for 7:00 p.m.
