Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. - A penalty corner goal with no time on the clock accounted for the only scoring as the Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to 17th-ranked Richmond, 1-0, at Crenshaw Field on Friday afternoon. Junior goalkeeper Kate Mitchell made eight saves in the game for SJU.

Richmond (12-4 overall, 4-0 Atlantic 10) dominated the run of play early, but the Hawk defense stood tall. Mitchell made three saves in the stanza while senior captain Abby Hoover added a defensive save.

In the second half, Saint Joseph's (4-12 overall, 1-3 Atlantic 10) had an opportunity to go ahead in the closing minutes, but sophomore Nicole Gerdes' effort was saved by Richmond's Anna Zarkoski to preserve the tie.

With no time showing on the clock, the Hawks had to weather one last corner opportunity; unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Richmond's Kimberly Sportack deflected the ball into the cage for the game-winning goal.

Saint Joseph's will play its home finale on Sunday against #19 Massachusetts at noon at Ellen Ryan Field. The Hawks will honor their four graduating seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
