D'Ottavi Earns Second Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week Honors

Oct. 31, 2012

PHILADELPHIA - For the second time this season, senior goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi has been named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week after making 22 saves combined in double overtime draws against La Salle and Fordham this past weekend. D'Ottavi proved to be the defensive backbone for the Hawks as the captain allowed just one goal in 220:00 of action.

After allowing a game-tying goal to La Salle in the 63rd minute of the Hawks' first Soccer Six match of the year on Friday (Oct. 26), D'Ottavi shutout the Explorers the rest of the way. The captain made five saves in the final 27 minutes of the second half and added three crucial saves in the first overtime to preserve the tie and keep La Salle from celebrating a share of the Soccer Six title. D'Ottavi made a season-high 12 saves in the draw.

With less than two days rest, D'Ottavi was a perfect 12-for-12 in save attempts against Fordham, with seven coming in the first half and two in the second overtime. His efforts preserved a scoreless draw for the Hawks as D'Ottavi recorded his third shutout of the season and fifth of his career.

For the weekend, D'Ottavi boasted a save percentage of a blistering .957. In Soccer Six standings, D'Ottavi ranks second in total saves (91), fourth in saves percentage (.760), and fifth in goals against average (1.76).

"Andrew was an integral part of our defense this weekend," said head coach Don D'Ambra. "He definitely deserves this honor. He has had a solid and consistent year for us. He has been a good leader on and off the field, and he has been leading by example. It's nice to see that his work rate and performance is getting acknowledged."

The Hawks will conclude their season against city-rival Temple on Saturday, November 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
