Three Hawks Earn Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Postseason Honors

Nov. 1, 2012

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Three Saint Joseph's field hockey players earned Atlantic 10 postseason honors, the league announced on Thursday morning. Sophomore Jordan Martin was named to the All-Conference Second Team, freshman Rachael Brosious was voted to the All-Rookie Team, and senior Meghan Githens took home All-Academic honors for the second straight year.

Martin led the Hawks in scoring this season, posting seven goals and a pair of assists for 16 points. She notched the game-winner in SJU's 3-1 win over Siena on September 16, one of her two goals on the day. Martin also scored in three straight games from September 16 to 23, and tallied a pair of goals in conference play.

Brosious scored the game-winning goal in her first collegiate game, a 2-1 win over Liberty on August 24; for her efforts, she was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on August 27. Brosious also tallied a goal in SJU's game at #7 Virginia on September 30.

Githens shattered her career highs in every major category, scoring three goals and tying for the team lead with five assists for 11 points. An All-Academic honoree last season as well, Githens scored both goals in the Hawks' 2-1 win over Villanova on October 3; the win gave Saint Joseph's consecutive wins over the Wildcats for the first time in 16 years.

In addition to her previous All-Academic honor, Githens is a three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad.
