Women's Lacrosse Drops 10-9 Decision to Monmouth

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team led 7-6 at half before being outscored by Monmouth, 4-2, in the second half to defeat the Hawks, 10-9, on Tuesday afternoon at Finnesey Field. Senior Grace Dinn led SJU with three goals on 12 shots.

Saint Joseph's outshot Monmouth, 14-13, in the first half as it converted half of the scoring opportunities into goals. Both teams traded goals in the frame, with the Hawks taking their largest lead of the game at 7-4 when Val Paolucci netted her first goal of the day at 3:44. Monmouth would climb back into the game with two late goals in the half.

After two early Monmouth goals to start the second half, Dinn added a man-up goal with 22:08 to play in the game and tied the score at 8-8. After another Monmouth goal, Paolucci added her second of the afternoon at 12:19 to keep the score tied. Monmouth scored the final goal of the game with 7:02 remaining as they held SJU scoreless in the final 12 minutes of play.

The Hawks could not convert on a few late chances as Monmouth held the ball for the final minute of regulation.

Goalkeeper Alisha Aquilino registered five saves between the pipes, while Monmouth's Katie Donohoe had eight.

Saint Joseph's will return to action on Sunday when it travels to Jacksonville to take on the Dolphins. The game is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
