Final Stats
PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team lost to George Washington, 10-9, in overtime at Mount Vernon Field on Friday. The Hawks opened up a six-goal lead early in the second half before the Colonials made their second half charge.
Megan Seidman got the Colonials started early at 25:55 with the first goal of the game. SJU would answer with two free position shots by Abby Ananian (23:30) and Val Paolucci (19:06) to take a one goal advantage a third of the way through the first frame. Goals by Megan McDevitt, Grace Dinn and Alana Glanell helped the Hawks carry a 5-1 lead into the break.
The second half started much like the first half went as Paolucci and Dinn opened up the half with goals to take a 7-1 lead with 25:58 left to play. It took GW more than 10 minutes to get on the board in the second half before Dinn added her third of the game to keep the lead at six goals. In the final 11:30 of regulation, the Colonials made an enormous come back, capped off by Addi Bolin's game-tying goal with just 45 seconds on the clock.
Continuing the late-game dramatics, Nicole Lacey scored the winning goal in overtime with only five seconds remaining as GW came out on top.
Nicole Lacey, Addi Bolin and Megan Seidman scored two goals each for the Colonials.
Alisha Aquilino made 12 saves between the pipes for SJU.
George Washington outshot the Hawks, 25-14, while SJU held an advantage in draw controls, 14-9.
Saint Joseph's will try to return to action on Sunday when it tries to regroup against a tough Richmond team. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
