Final Stats
PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell in overtime on Senior Day to the Duquesne Dukes, 13-10, on Sunday at Finnesey Field. Alana Glanell scored with three seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Duquesne used the first 11 minutes to jump out to an early 5-1 lead. Meghan McDevitt found Grace Dinn to set up the first Hawk goal at 23:08. Jen Peters made a terrific play behind Duquesne's net to force a turnover and found Dinn to close the gap to three. SJU's Michele Granger scored with eight seconds left in the half to make the score 5-3 at the break.
In the first six minutes of the second half, the Dukes outscored Saint Joseph's, 3-1, to build an 8-4 lead. The Hawks came storming back with three goals by Glanell, Val Paolucci and Dinn to cut the deficit to one. Both teams traded two goals apiece before Glanell netted the final goal of regulation to send play into overtime.
The Dukes controlled overtime, winning all five draws, and outscoring the Hawks, 3-0, to finalize the score, 13-10.
Saint Joseph's held a slight advantage in shots, 29-28, as the Dukes won 16 of the 26 Draws.
Caitlin Prince led the Dukes in scoring as she netted a game-high seven goals. Liz Walker was awarded the win in net for Duquesne, while Alisha Aquilino took the loss for SJU making 11 saves.
The game marks the second time this season that Saint Joseph's lost in overtime to an Atlantic 10 opponent.
The Hawks will return to action on Friday when they travel to Temple for a 3:00 p.m. game. They will close out the regular season at La Salle on Sunday, with a 1:00 p.m. start.
Before the game this afternoon, SJU honored its seven graduation seniors - Grace Dinn, Liz Fox, Alana Glanell, Carly Kindbom, Alli MacDonald, Julie Mineweaser, and Jen Peters - for their hardwork and dedication to the program over the past four season on Hawk Hill.
